A VFU single from this RARE plate, in a VERY SCARCE SAVOY STREET PALE ROSE shade, centred slightly high, with FULL PERFS, on a neat DATED PIECE of 16 APRIL 1857, lightly cancelled with a neat HULL SPOON (Type 'D', Code 'E'). Plate 40 was only at press for a couple of weeks at Savoy Street, and I am advised that the earliest known use for the plate from Savoy Street printings is currently 14 April 1857, which makes this a very early use indeed. Lower E frame-break, and 'D' misplaced low right. 125.00

1858 2d Deep Blue A VFU RARE HORIZONTAL PAIR from the VERY SCARCE Perf.16 issue, centred somewhat low left, but with FULL PERFS, lightly cancelled with London Inland '34' numerals. 'TD': 'T' misplaced right; 'TE': NE corner frame-line extending E. Numerous corrosion blurs and scratches on both units. NOTE: It has been suggested that 'TE' has been re-entered, and completes the notable vertical 'E' Row 'KE-SE' series of re-entries on this plate. However, careful examination of this unit and comparison with the imprimatur shows that the various marks are not consistent with those of the re-entered units above, and most are not present on the imprimatur. 185.00

1857 1d Rose-red (shades) on White Paper: A SUPERB VERY RARE UNUSED single from this RARE PLATE, centred a whisker low left, with FULL PERFS.
